General & Booking

Studio Hours, Quotes, Payment & Insurance

Everything you need to know before booking your first appointment at our Rochester, MN studio.

What are your studio hours and where are you located?

We're located at 273 Penny Ln NE #209, Rochester, MN 55906. Studio hours are Monday through Saturday by appointment only — Sunday closed. To book, call 507-613-1122 or use our online booking page. Walk-ins for windshield chip repair are welcome during business hours.

How do I get a quote?

The fastest path: call 507-613-1122 or use our contact form. Tell us your vehicle make, model, year, and which service you're considering. We send back a written quote within one business day. For complex jobs (paint correction, full vehicle PPF, custom wraps), we schedule a free in-person inspection at our Rochester studio.

Do you accept walk-ins?

Yes — but only for windshield chip repair. Every other service (detailing, ceramic, PPF, wraps, full tint) is appointment-only because we need to plan studio space, climate-controlled cure time, and product. Same-day appointments are sometimes available — call to check.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), and digital payments including Apple Pay and Google Pay. For services over $1,000, we may require a 25% refundable deposit to secure your appointment. Read the full Terms & Conditions.

Do you bill insurance for windshield repair?

Yes. Most Minnesota comprehensive auto insurance policies waive deductibles for windshield chip repair — meaning $0 out of pocket. Full windshield replacement is typically covered at $0-$100 deductible depending on your policy. We bill the insurance carrier directly and handle the claim paperwork. Learn more about chip repair or replacement.

Do you work on EVs, exotics, and luxury vehicles?

Yes — Tesla, Porsche, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Lucid, Rivian, and exotic platforms are regular guests at our Rochester studio. Each is serviced with the specific paint chemistry, panel construction, and ADAS recalibration requirements those vehicles need. No surcharge for luxury platforms beyond the materials required for proper service.

What's your cancellation policy?

We need at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or reschedules — gives us time to fill the slot with another customer. Cancellations within 24 hours may forfeit up to 50% of any deposit. No-shows without notice forfeit the full deposit. Full policy in our Terms & Conditions.

How far in advance should I book?

Quick services (chip repair, basic detail, tint) often book within a few days. Larger jobs — paint correction, ceramic coating, PPF, full wraps — typically book 1-2 weeks out. Peak season (April through October) fills faster, so book early if you're planning a spring detail or pre-winter PPF.

Window Tinting

Minnesota Tint Law, Install Time & Aftercare

Tint laws are stricter in Minnesota than most states. Here's what's legal, what isn't, and what to expect during install.

What's the legal window tint limit in Minnesota?

Front side windows must allow at least 50% VLT (Visible Light Transmission) in Minnesota — meaning at least 50% of light passes through the glass plus film combined. Rear side windows and rear windshield have no VLT limit — tint them as dark as you want. The windshield can have a sunband strip above the AS-1 line; main viewing area must allow at least 70% VLT.

Full guide: Minnesota Window Tint Laws 2026.

How long does window tint installation take?

Depends on what's being tinted:

  • Front two windows: 1 to 1.5 hours
  • Full vehicle tint: 2.5 to 4 hours (varies by SUV vs sedan vs truck)
  • Windshield sunband strip: Under 1 hour
  • Full ceramic windshield: About 90 minutes
  • Tint removal: 1.5 to 3 hours depending on age and adhesive condition

You can wait at our Rochester studio or drop off — we'll text you when it's ready.

What's the difference between carbon and ceramic film?

Carbon film uses carbon-based dyes for color stability — it won't fade or turn purple over time, blocks UV, and offers solid heat rejection. Strong daily-driver value.

Ceramic film uses nano-ceramic particles instead of dyes or metals. It rejects up to 99% of infrared heat, blocks 99% of UV, is optically crystal clear, and won't interfere with GPS, toll transponders, or cell signal. Premium tier.

Both are road-legal in Minnesota at the 50% VLT minimum on front sides.

How long should I wait to roll my windows down after tinting?

At least 48 hours. The film adhesive needs time to set, and any movement during that period can shift the film or cause edge lifting. Full curing in Minnesota's climate takes 3 days to 2 weeks depending on temperature — film bubbles or haze during this period are normal and disappear as the adhesive sets.

How do I clean tinted windows?

Wait 3-5 days after install before cleaning. After that:

  • Use a soft microfiber cloth — never paper towels or abrasive cloths
  • Use an ammonia-free glass cleaner (most green-colored Windex is fine; avoid the blue formula)
  • Spray cleaner on the cloth, not directly on the glass
  • Don't use razor blades or scrub brushes anywhere near the film edges
Do you offer a warranty on window tint?

Yes. Premium carbon and ceramic films from our authorized manufacturers (3M, LLumar, SunTek, XPEL Prime) carry a lifetime manufacturer warranty against bubbling, peeling, fading, and color shift. We also provide a lifetime workmanship warranty on the installation labor. See full manufacturer list.

Can I get a medical exemption for darker front tint in Minnesota?

Yes. Drivers with documented medical conditions (lupus, photosensitive porphyria, severe sun allergy, certain skin cancers, etc.) can apply for a Minnesota medical exemption through the Department of Public Safety. Requires a signed physician letter and carries an approval letter that must stay in the vehicle. The exemption is granted to the driver — not the vehicle — so it doesn't transfer if you sell.

Will my GPS, toll transponder, or radar detector still work after tinting?

Yes with carbon or ceramic film — they're non-metallic and don't interfere with radio frequencies. Avoid metallic / metalized films if you rely on these devices; they can disrupt signals significantly. We only install carbon and ceramic at our Rochester studio.

03
Ceramic Coating

Lifespan, Maintenance & Why It's Worth It

Ceramic coating is the most-asked-about service at our Rochester studio. Here's the honest take on what it does, what it doesn't, and how to make it last.

How long does ceramic coating last in Minnesota's climate?

Manufacturer warranties run 2 to 9 years depending on tier. Real-world Rochester lifespan — factoring in road salt, snow slush, and summer UV — typically tracks within 80-90% of advertised warranty when maintained properly. Our three tiers: 2-year ($899), 5-year ($1,499), 9-year ($2,499).

Is ceramic coating worth it vs just waxing?

For Minnesota daily drivers — yes, decisively. Wax lasts 3 months. Ceramic lasts 2-9 years. Five years of monthly waxing costs $3,000+; a 5-year ceramic costs $1,499. The math favors ceramic on any vehicle you keep 2+ years.

Full breakdown: Ceramic Coating vs Wax.

Will ceramic coating prevent rock chips and scratches?

No. Ceramic adds chemical resistance, UV protection, and a hydrophobic surface — but it's not a physical impact barrier. For rock chip and scratch protection, you need Paint Protection Film (PPF). Ceramic on top of PPF is the ultimate combo.

Do I still need to wash my car after ceramic coating?

Yes, but far less often and much more easily. Coated vehicles release dirt with a touchless foam rinse. Most owners reduce wash frequency by about 50% and never need a clay bar again. Detailed maintenance guide: How to Maintain a Ceramic-Coated Car in Rochester.

How long does ceramic coating take to install?

Most installs take 1 to 2 full days in our climate-controlled bay. Day 1: paint correction and decontamination prep. Day 2: coating application and cure under controlled humidity. Higher tiers (5-year, 9-year) include multi-layer application and longer cure time. Vehicle stays at the studio overnight during cure.

Can my car be washed after ceramic coating?

Don't wash for 7 days after install — the coating needs full cure time. After day 7, hand wash with pH-neutral soap using the two-bucket method. Skip automatic brush washes forever — spinning dirty bristles will scratch any coating regardless of hardness rating. Touchless automatic washes are fine.

Which ceramic coating tier should I get?

Quick answer:

  • Daily commuter, budget-conscious: 2-year Standard ($899)
  • Most Rochester customers / enthusiast cars: 5-year Premium ($1,499)
  • Luxury, exotic, long-term keeper: 9-year Elite ($2,499)

All tiers include paint correction prep — the higher tiers include more stages. See package details.

04
Paint Protection Film (PPF)

Clear Bra, Coverage Areas & Self-Healing

PPF — also called clear bra — is the only way to physically stop rock chips from damaging your paint. Here's how it works.

What's the difference between PPF and ceramic coating?

PPF protects from impact (rock chips, road debris, scratches). It's a physical urethane film with self-healing technology.

Ceramic protects from chemistry (UV, acid rain, contaminants, water). It's a chemical bonded layer of nano-silica particles.

Different problems, different solutions. For high-value vehicles, PPF + Ceramic together is the gold standard. Full comparison: PPF vs Ceramic Coating.

How long does PPF last?

Premium PPF carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty against yellowing, cracking, peeling, and delamination. Real-world lifespan on garage-kept vehicles often exceeds 10 years. We only install XPEL Ultimate Plus, SunTek Reaction, and 3M Scotchgard Pro — premium tiers with full self-healing properties. See manufacturer details.

What does "self-healing" PPF actually mean?

The top layer of premium PPF is engineered with a flexible elastomer that returns to its original flat state when warmed. Light surface scratches, swirl marks, and minor abrasions disappear as the film heats up from sunlight, warm water, or a heat gun. Deeper gouges that penetrate the film aren't recoverable.

Which PPF package should I get?

Depends on where you actually get rock chips:

  • Partial Front ($1,299) — covers the front 24" of hood, front bumper, fenders, mirrors. The 80% of rock chips happen in 20% of the panel area — this hits all of it.
  • Full Front ($2,299) — same as Partial but extends to full hood, full fenders, headlights, and A-pillars. No partial line visible.
  • Full Vehicle ($5,999+) — every painted panel. Best for exotics, collector cars, and EVs.

Full breakdown: Paint Protection Film.

Will PPF damage my paint when removed?

No — when installed properly with premium urethane film. Modern PPF is designed for clean removal without pulling clear coat. The adhesive softens with controlled heat and releases cleanly. We handle removal as part of our service if you ever decide to take it off.

How long does PPF installation take?

Depends on coverage:

  • Partial Front: 1 day
  • Full Front: 2-3 days
  • Full Vehicle: 4-7 days

Always installed in our climate-controlled bay for optimal adhesion and cure.

Can I wash my car after PPF install?

Wait 48 hours minimum before any water exposure. Wait 2 weeks before using high-pressure spray near the edges. Like ceramic, skip automatic brush washes forever — the bristles drag dirt across the film and degrade the self-healing topcoat.

05
Auto Detailing

Packages, Frequency & What's Included

From a quick express clean to a full pre-coating Showroom Detail — here's what each package includes and how often most Rochester drivers book.

How often should I detail my car in Rochester?

Minnesota's road salt, winter slush, and summer pollen are tough on paint and interior:

  • Daily drivers: Full detail every 4-6 months
  • Weekend / garaged vehicles: Twice a year
  • Pre-winter prep (October-November): Highly recommended for any vehicle parked outdoors
  • Post-winter spring clean (April): Removes accumulated salt and grime
What's included in an Express vs Full vs Showroom Detail?

Express Detail ($149) — hand wash, wheel face and tire dressing, vacuum, interior wipedown, windows inside and out. 2-3 hours.

Full Detail ($299) — everything in Express PLUS clay bar, iron decon, steam interior sterilization, leather conditioning, optional engine bay clean. 4-6 hours. Most popular tier.

Showroom Detail ($499) — everything in Full PLUS single-stage paint enhancement, plastic trim restoration, final IPA wipedown. Coating-ready surface. Full day.

Details: Auto Detailing.

Do you handle pet hair, smoke odors, or deep stains?

Yes. Pet hair, ash, and odor remediation are included in the Full and Showroom Detail packages. Deep stain extraction (set-in coffee, milk, vomit, blood) may require additional time and cost — quoted at consultation. Severe smoke saturation may need ozone treatment, which we can arrange.

Should I detail my car before getting ceramic coating?

Don't book a separate detail. Our coating prep is far more rigorous than a typical wash — clay bar, iron decon, paint correction, and IPA wipedown are required for the ceramic to bond properly. Book the Showroom Detail or include detailing in your coating package and the prep is handled correctly.

How long does a typical detail take?

Express: 2-3 hours. Full: 4-6 hours. Showroom (with paint enhancement): full day. We schedule by appointment so your vehicle is ready when promised — drop off in the morning, pick up in the afternoon or evening for most packages.

06
Paint Correction

Stages, When You Need It & Coating Prep

Paint correction physically removes defects from your clear coat for true mirror-like clarity. Here's when you need it and how to choose a stage.

How do I know if my car needs paint correction?

Look at your paint under direct sunlight or a single-point LED flashlight at night. If you see:

  • Spider-web swirl marks in concentric circles around lights or in random patterns
  • Holograms — straight-line buffing marks left by previous polishing
  • Light scratches visible from a few feet away
  • Water-spot etching that won't wash off
  • Hazy or dull finish compared to a freshly-polished section

...you'd benefit from correction. We offer free Rochester paint inspections with a digital thickness gauge.

What's the difference between Stage 1, 2, and 3 correction?

Stage 1 ($399) — single compound + polish step. Removes 60-80% of light defects. Best for newer vehicles with minor swirls.

Stage 2 ($799) — heavy cut compound + finishing polish. Removes 90-95% of defects. Most popular tier for moderately-swirled vehicles.

Stage 3 ($1,499) — three-step process targeting 99%+ defect removal. Show-car level work. See full details.

Will paint correction damage my clear coat?

Not when done conservatively. We measure clear coat thickness with a digital gauge before any abrasive touches the paint and only work as aggressively as the clear coat tolerates. Aggressive one-shot DIY corrections — or shops that skip thickness measurement — can absolutely damage your clear coat. We don't.

Should I get paint correction before ceramic coating?

Almost always. Ceramic coating locks in whatever finish exists underneath — including any swirls and holograms. If your paint has visible defects, correcting them first means the corrected finish gets preserved for the full coating lifespan. Bundle pricing applies when both services are booked together.

07
Custom Vinyl Wraps

Color Change, Lifespan & Removal

Wraps change your vehicle's color without paint — and protect the original finish underneath. Here's what to expect.

How long does a vinyl wrap last in Rochester?

Premium cast vinyl from 3M, Avery Dennison, and KPMF lasts 5-7 years on garage-kept vehicles and 3-5 years on outdoor daily drivers in Minnesota. Cheap calendared vinyl from budget shops can fail in under 2 years — we only install premium cast at our Rochester studio.

Will a wrap damage my paint when removed?

Properly installed cast vinyl removes cleanly without pulling clear coat or leaving residue — that's why cast vinyl is critical. Cheap calendared films can leave adhesive residue or tear paint when removed. We only install premium cast for exactly this reason.

Can I wash a wrapped car normally?

Yes — but skip automatic brush washes. Hand wash with pH-neutral soap, or use touchless automatic washes only. High-pressure spray should stay 6+ inches from wrap edges. We provide full care instructions at vehicle pickup.

What's the difference between gloss, satin, matte, and color-shift wraps?

Gloss — high-shine finish similar to factory paint, easiest to maintain. Satin — soft luster between gloss and matte. Matte — flat finish, very modern look, shows fingerprints more easily. Color-shift — premium specialty films that change color depending on viewing angle (purple-to-blue, green-to-bronze, etc.) — most expensive tier. See wrap packages.

How long does a full wrap take?

Partial / accent wrap: 1 day. Full color change: 4-7 days. Specialty / color-shift wrap: 5-10 days. Always installed in our climate-controlled Rochester bay to ensure proper adhesion at consistent temperature.

08
Windshield & Glass Repair

Chip Repair, Replacement & ADAS Recalibration

A small chip becomes a 12-inch crack faster than you'd expect — especially in Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycles. Here's how repair, replacement, and insurance work.

Can every windshield chip be repaired?

Most chips up to 1 inch in diameter are repairable. Cracks longer than 6 inches, chips in the driver's direct line of sight, deep gouges penetrating the inner laminate layer, or multiple cracks radiating from a single point typically require full replacement instead of repair.

How much does windshield chip repair cost?

Single chip: $79. Multi-chip: $129+. Most repairs complete in 30 minutes while you wait. Most Minnesota comprehensive insurance policies waive deductibles entirely — meaning $0 out of pocket when we bill the carrier directly. More details.

Will the chip repair be invisible?

Most repairs reduce the visible defect by 80-95%. A small mark may remain — but the structural integrity is fully restored and the chip won't spread. The alternative is waiting for the chip to become a crack and needing a $400-1,200 replacement instead of an $79 repair.

What is ADAS recalibration and do I need it?

If your vehicle has lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, or automatic emergency braking, there's a forward-facing camera mounted to the inside of your windshield. After replacement, that camera needs to be precisely recalibrated to read road markings and obstacles correctly. We perform ADAS recalibration in-house on every replacement — no second appointment needed at the dealer.

Does my insurance cover windshield replacement?

Most comprehensive policies cover windshield replacement at $0-$100 deductible depending on your specific policy. Some Minnesota insurers waive deductibles entirely for safety-glass claims. We bill the insurance carrier directly and handle the claim paperwork — you typically pay only any deductible balance.

What's the difference between OEM-equivalent and OEM-branded glass?

OEM-equivalent ($399+) — quality aftermarket glass meeting OEM optical and structural standards. Suitable for most daily drivers and identical to factory in most respects.

OEM-branded ($699+) — manufacturer-branded glass identical to factory original. Required by some insurance policies, ADAS systems, and luxury / exotic vehicles. We can quote either tier based on your insurance carrier requirements and vehicle.

How soon should I repair a windshield chip?

ASAP — same day if possible. Minnesota's temperature swings (especially freeze-thaw cycles in March and November), highway vibration, or a single pothole can spread a small chip into a 12-inch crack within hours. A $79 chip repair beats a $400-1,200 replacement every time.
